Making childcare management feel less like a chore

Playground is an all-in-one platform for childcare programs, bringing attendance, billing, registration, communication, payroll, learning, and AI into one place. It’s built to replace the collection of disconnected tools that childcare teams usually have to manage.

The Challenge

Childcare operations have a lot going on behind the scenes.

There are families to communicate with, payments to collect, paperwork to manage, staff to coordinate, and enrollment to keep track of.

The challenge was showing all of that without making Playground feel like another complicated piece of business software.

The Design

I wanted the day-to-day experience of running a childcare program to be the main story.

Instead of leading with a long list of features, the website moves through the different parts of the business — marketing, registration, finances, engagement, operations, and now AI.

The product UI does most of the explaining, while the illustrations and softer visual language keep the experience feeling connected to childcare.

The AI Layer

The introduction of Camber adds another interesting part to the story.

Rather than presenting AI as just another feature, Playground positions it as an extra set of hands that can answer calls, handle inquiries, answer staff questions, and take care of repetitive admin work.

The Result

The final direction makes a fairly complex childcare platform feel approachable by keeping the focus on the people using it and the work they need to get done.

Less admin. Less switching. More time for the people who matter.
